How to Maintain Your Aquarium

An aquarium environment is one of the hardest pet habitats to maintain. Unlike keeping a dog or a cat, you cannot keep any type of fish out in the open. The fish must remain in an aquatic environment within a well maintained aquarium. It is tough keeping this environment clean, filtered and supplied with food, but the results are worth the hassle.
First: Prepare the fish tank
Smart aquarium owners clean their tanks before releasing fish into the environment. Start by checking the tank for any issues or cracks and cleaning it from top to bottom. You should always put new fish in a fresh tank and never reuse an older aquarium. Also, do not use an aquarium that has any form of mold or mildew around the corners or edges. This occurs after water is removed from the tank, as some inevitably remains. Fill the tank with various pebbles, stones or aquatic furniture for visual stimuli.
Second: Keep the tank filtrated
Finding the proper filtration system to keep the water clean is one of the most important parts of maintaining an aquatic environment. Without a proper filtering system, the water turns a stagnant color over time, which is unhealthy for any life forms. You should also drain and replace the water on a timed routine, because even the best filtration system can not keep the water completely filtered.
Third: Change out the scenery
Just as you change the water on certain occasions, also change the various toys and rocks that bed the bottom of the tank. Over time, they can build up a rather slimy formation of mildew. This mildew creates health issues that can kill many types of fish. If you want the fish to remain a part of your life, then you must clean the aquarium as often as possible and keep the environment as clean as you can.
